About SOFAA - The Society Of Fine Art Auctioneers. Representing the Fine Art Auctioneering Profession
The Society of Fine Art Auctioneers and Valuers (SOFAA) is the only professional organisation in the United Kingdom dedicated solely to fine art auctioneers and valuers.
It represents the profession both corporately and individually, offering a collective voice for those working in this specialist field.
Since its formation in 1976, the Society has provided a strong professional foundation for firms and individuals operating across the country.
Supporting Expertise and Best Practice
SOFAA’s membership includes leading companies and valuers in London and throughout the UK. Members specialise in the valuation at auction of antiques, fine art, jewellery, and other chattels, and together they possess an unmatched breadth of expertise.
While the Society does not function as a regulatory body, it actively promotes best practice by offering guidance to members to uphold the highest standards of professionalism and client care.
Encouraging Education and Development
One of the Society’s core functions is to support the ongoing education and development of its members. From entry-level professionals to experienced valuers and auctioneers, SOFAA provides resources and opportunities for training, networking, and knowledge-sharing.
This commitment to learning helps to maintain excellence within the profession and ensures that clients can rely on members for informed, ethical, and skilled service at every level.
SOFAA also ensures that its members are kept up-to-date with any new legislation or Government guidelines. For example additional money laundering requirements. It runs regular webinars, seminars and courses throughout the year available to all members. Members especially enjoy the programme of visits each year, where they get the chance to learn as well as meet others in the industry.
